Publishers want XML for reuse & independence of output format. Subject Matter Experts (SME's) use Word as an editorial tool. This can lead to technical & production workflow issues. How to get valid XML, so the SME focuses on content, not software?

What will be the ramifications of this to the progress of XML in general and in particular how Microsoft continues to develop its own products.

What do the purests thinks. More room for discussions I think.
