- I am an engineer by qualification and a technical writer by profession. I have 13 years experience in technical writing, of which seven are in managerial capacity. I started my technical writing career with Computervision India Pvt. Ltd. (now, PTC Software India Pvt. Ltd). I then joined Fluent India Pvt. Ltd., in 2000, where my prime responsibility was to set up a documentation team. Currently, I am working as Senior Manager, Documentation.
I have published articles on technical writing in Indus (the STC magazine in India), in newspapers like Indian Express and Hindu. I have also helped the Centre for Convergence Media Studies (CCMS), University of Kerala, in creating the syllabus for their 6-month, part-time program titled Certificate in Technical Communication. Apart from writing, I am also interested in reading, music, gardening, sketching, spending time with my daughter, and traveling.
I have recently published a book on technical writing (in April 2008). The book titled “Technical Writing” is of about 550 pages and has been published by Himalaya Publishing House. The ISBN Number is 978-81-8318-986-6. SRM School of Management, Chennai (http://www.srmgroup.org/srminsmgt.html) has decided to use this book as their prescribed text book.
This is the first book of its kind by an Indian author that covers all the basic aspects of technical writing and so acts as a comprehensive reference guide for technical writers. It provides information about audience analysis, planning, usability, language, indexing, rewriting, editing, style guides, tools, document design, and checklists.
