Early on I used Authorware, but that was quite a while ago. At one point while contracting at the National Science Foundation, I was doing a lot of Flash development, using a shell loader file that enabled me to stitch together instructional sequences. I had created a lot of VBA macros for Word and Excel over the years and had also used JavaScript, so I found ActionScript easy to learn. But the contractor I was working for eventually lost the contract, so the Flash work ended and my next assignment was a technical writing role. I haven't used Flash much since then. (I recently upgraded to Flash CS3 and am trying to rebuild my skills.)
Right now I'm using Captivate to create some tutorials for the National Cancer Institute. I have also used RapidBuilder, and have had some exposure to Articulate. I mainly wrote the content for the tutorial and a colleague created the Articulate wrapper.
For printed materials, I have used Word, FrameMaker, and InDesign. My preference is FrameMaker for big jobs. Currently I'm learning AuthorIt, hoping to develop my own set of templates for content management and re-use.
I'm a one-person shop right now, so I have to learn a lot of tools.
