Job Title:
Technical Writer
Company Name:
MWEB
About Me:
I am a technical communicator at a large African ISP and I haven't lost my evangelical fervour for the empowering potential of the Internet. Apart from researching, writing and editing, I manage a small documentation team. Our documentation is targeted at call-centre staff.

Specialities:

  • Researching and writing reference & training material
  • Online Help
  • Production of PDFs that follow a Help-file format
  • Editing of training material & company communications
  • ICT Journalism
  • Copywriting -- online & below the line
  • English/Afrikaans and Afrikaans/English translation

And I love jazz. Heavy but not too avant-garde. John Coltrane is a good example.

  3. I wrote only in HTML from the end of 1999 to 2001.
  4. Then it was MS Word again, and it's still my source editor, albeit with the

The Flavors of CM: LCMS and LMS

A lot of the systems we tend to talk about are focused on either technical publications or on generalized publishing. Content Management – A blessing and a curse or how I became overhead…

As I sit here in Bora Bora, I can finally take a breath. It’s 6 pm. I have been trying since 5 pm to tear myself away from my cube so that I could take a few minutes to clarify my thoughts regarding our Content Management System. Lest you think I am sitting on a [...]

You can keep your customers satisfied by knowing them better and serving up the most appropriate content in the form that suits them best. In the old days, we could get by using manual means to manipulate corporate [...]

The Flavors of CM: Content Management vs Document Management

There are many different perspectives around on what content management is and isn’t and what a Content Management system needs to do. According to that font of all knowledge, Wikipedia, “A content management system (CMS) is computer software used to create, edit, manage, and publish content in a consistently organized fashion.
