How far can you push an analogy?

I have finished that article for the ISTC Communicator magazine which I started back in April and mentioned in a blog post back then. The gardening analogy I use for managing content is rather pushed to the limit and was further pushed in the copy edit process. I do wonder how far you can push without it becoming comical. Hopefully, we haven't got that point, but we shall see. When it is published I… Continue

Hooray an AIT 5 version that works

Yes you read the title right, version 5.1 of Author-it seems to work. It publishes and everything. OK so there are still a few bugs but we can live with them, and after conversion we did have a couple of dodgy objects that needed removing. It's also very slow on the client side, for our now 2 year old PCs. MY laptop is faster but even that shows the strain taking 3 - 4 seconds to open an object. However, I can live with the speed. Now that we've been able to use it, we appreciate how much easier… Continue

Limerick

So I'm Limerick for the night, visiting our Irish office. Microsoft Infopath is on my mind. How can I use it on our sharepoint intranet. I have had some good pointers from people over here, all I need to do is translate it all into a coherent plan. Convince a number of people that adopting infopath for many of our internal documentation processes may prove a rather big hurdle too. Ultimately it is using our sharepoint intranet… Continue

Still fighting with AIT version 5.0 - a Rant

The word of the day for a dictionary site a couple of weeks back was 'defenestrate' to throw out of the window. Which at times over the last few months I have wanted to do with Author-it 5.0. Every time that we have tried to upgrade we have been thwarted by a bug that makes it impossible to use effectively. Underneath it is still a great tool but there have been too many irritating bugs in it. I am currently trying to rollout the tool to several other departments and I would like to use 5.0 rath… Continue

Time

Time is in short supply these days and technology seems to promise all sorts of time savings. We were short of time in my department before I arrived. Constant cycles of software releases and supposedly no time to do anything else. Certainly that was the mindset and it was communicated far and wide. We now have a 'can do' attitude rather than a 'can't'. What brought about this change? It had something to do with the adoption of our CMS, Author-it. This freed at least 25% of our time releasing th… Continue

Best Practices of Global Production Information

Now, more than ever, organizations need to effectively communicate global product information if they are to operate successfully on the world stage. Traditionally, though, organizations have faced a fragmented landscape of technology solutions that are bolted together, but don’t work together. Organizations have had to integrate these technologies themselves and cope with the resulting overhead.
It doesn’t have to be like this. Read our new whitepaper, Best Practices of Global Product Information to find out how you can streamline and enhance the processes you use of communicate global product information.
