The state's gas crisis is affecting everything at the moment, except residential customers. Businesses are badly affected, and it's only going to get worse as some industries pretty much shut down. The flow on effects to industries you would never suspect are yet to really manifest themselves. e.g. the pig and cattle abbatoirs use some form of carbon dioxide to kill the beasts, and it's provided by a company that uses gas to make the stuff. Hotels are affected as the main supplier of laundry services to 95% of our hotels can't run its machines as they rely on gas. The impact will be huge... and we're only 3 weeks in so far. Some industries can replace lost gas supplies with more expensive diesel; others can't. And it all happened at a time when 2 or more coal-fired power stations were down for maintenance or repair. They're even going to fire up two mothballed coal-fired power stations, but they will take some 6 weeks to come on line. No-one knows for sure when the gas supply can be repaired....

I haven't participated much in any online communities, Ning or otherwise, due to lack of time. I like the idea, but if something (reading, responding) is not directly related to one of my projects-of-the-day, I'm unlikely to do it. My basic problem, of course, is having too many projects -- a problem caused by too many interests!

Hi Jean
I will be intersted to see how useful you find these Ning communities. I find they are difficult to develop any continuity on. They require you to keep cruising and signing up for new topics you are interested in, as your current conversations die.
