Profile Information

Job Title:
Documentation Manager
Company Name:
COA Solutions Ltd
About Me:
Before getting into the world of technical authoring, I was a bank manager! A bit of contrast. I spent the first twenty years in branch banking and then moved into the Bank's Video Unit producing staff focused programs. After that I got involved in work that led me to specifying the IT requirements for managers whose role was to look after High Net Worth customers. This required me to translate between userspeak and techie speak, which I regard as being one of the technical author's main skills! When wide-spread redundancies came along, what I had learned along the way led me into authoring. It was meant to be a job to fill in the last 10-15 years of my working life but it turned out to be rather more. At times it feels like it has taken over my life!

Macromedia made me a Team Macromedia Member because of my work supporting their forum and maintaining what has proved to be a very popular website. Under Adobe, we became known as Adobe Community Experts and I enjoy helping RoboHelp users on the Adobe forums. I am a committed RoboHelp user and my website contains many authoring and RoboHelp articles.

My expertise is with RoboHelp whereas you are talking about taking a travel website and producing a DVD brochure, very different areas and CS3 is a very different package.

Would I be right in thinking the DVD is a subset of the website? No booking function included, obviously, but does include the information about the holiday packages in terms of where they go? If so it is effectively just a cut down website so surely you already have what you need? Maybe the site relies on PHP or suchlike and that is why you cannot get it onto DVD? If so, Server2Go could be the answer as it enables you to make the DVD think it is a server.

It's nice to know we have an ADOBE EXPERT in the community. Would you please recommend a good Adobe book or online resource to help me through converting a travel website to a nice and professional DVD online brochure? I have the Adobe Creaitve Suite 3 including both Flash and Premiere and I'd like to learn them ASAP for this project.

I've benefited immensely from your website, and am thrilled that I can now put a face to the name whose website taught me advanced HTML (inter alia). Thanks a million for your website.

BTW, I was a banker too before I became a techwriter. Ok, technically not a banker - I only printed the banknotes :).
