Sandra Says blog

Sandra Says something for Click2Houston

I had about three second of fame last night on KPRC-TV Channel 2 (the local NBC affiliate station). The story was about the success of the Houston Public Library’s Summer Reading Program. No video posted, but a web-equivalent story is posted on their site: [snip] “Last year, we had 20,000 kids and teens register for the program. [...]

I can’t sleep

I my sleep-deprived mind, posting this instead of tweeting it makes sense. Once upon a time, I kept an online journal. I started it as an experiment in html. It was my way to force myself to learn, a place to experiment, a location online where I could vent and connect. Once upon a time I [...]

green house

My good friend and occasional client Geraldina Wise was featured on Primer Impacto. A Spanish language national television program, the show focused on her work in designing sustainable, green housing. Her most notable project was her own home, which can be viewed in the video. I have learned more about sustainable housing from Geraldina than I [...]

OK, it’s posts like this that make me aware that I either lead a very dull life or just have a bland imagination. Either way, kudos to the bloggess for brightening my day. So basically it was me, two people in normal clothes and two people in bowling shirts who could have gone into any Starbucks [...]

write every day

The advice I hear a lot, for improving creativity and writing style, is to write every day. But I don't. And I wonder why I'm not improving, why my writing is rusty, why my style isn't as sharp as it used to be. I am committing myself to at least write my "morning pages" every day. Do any of you write every day?

what makes you a writer?

I am a writer by vocation, by training and by choice. My title is manager of public relations, my first love is writing. When do you get to say you're a writer? I don't have a book, but my words have been used in newspapers, magazines, web sites, annual reports, brochures, reports, presentations, speeches (local, state and national), and a myriad of other places. Sometimes my work is picked up word for word, sometimes it's picked up in snippets and excerpts. I rarely get a byline or credit. I… Continue

Now, more than ever, organizations need to effectively communicate global product information if they are to operate successfully on the world stage. The Flavors of CM: LCMS and LMS

A lot of the systems we tend to talk about are focused on either technical publications or on generalized publishing. But there’s another focus area for content management that we haven’t talked about a lot that should be talked about: Learning materials, aka training materials. Content Management – A blessing and a curse or how I became overhead…

As I sit here in Bora Bora, I can finally take a breath. It’s 6 pm. I have been trying since 5 pm to tear myself away from my cube so that I could take a few minutes to clarify my thoughts regarding our Content Management System. Lest you think I am sitting on a [...]

Serving Multiple Touch-points – Old School Tricks

As the old adage goes, “It costs more to find a customer than to keep a customer”. You can keep your customers satisfied by knowing them better and serving up the most appropriate content in the form that suits them best. In the old days, we could get by using manual means to manipulate corporate [...]

The Flavors of CM: Content Management vs Document Management

There are many different perspectives around on what content management is and isn’t and what a Content Management system needs to do. According to that font of all knowledge, Wikipedia, “A content management system (CMS) is computer software used to create, edit, manage, and publish content in a consistently organized fashion.
