Job Title:
Campaigns Manager/Publisher Services
Company Name:
Unruly Media
About Me:
I'm Campaigns Manager and Publisher Services person at Unruly Media, an advertising company in London. I love my job, but when people ask what I do and I say "I'm in advertising", I always look down and slightly to the right. I'm also an acting research assistant on The Pilgrimage Project at Oxford University, researching the psychological motivations and reactions of people in sacred spaces. In my spare time, I'm attempting to redecorate a cottage with my husband whilst reading as much as possible about quantum physics and philosophy of mathematics.

Rats!

Yesterday, I was sitting on our newly-acquired mattress on the floor upstairs (yes, we finally have a mattress. No, we still don't have a bed), when my husband asked the Most Amazing Question: "Darling, would you like me to go and get some wine?" I, of course, replied in the affirmative, if I replied at all: I can't really remember. I think I was just so stunned at being able to sit on something comfortable that I'd been reduced to silent inner tears of mirth. Anyway, he took my reply - or lack… Continue

End of the week

So it's been a bit of a long week. We're still looking for a house, and the one we're in is being renovated. Luckily, the water is back now (both hot and cold), which is good... but we'd really like to be out. The landlord has very kindly agreed that we can stay as long as we have to. Hopefully that won't be too long though. I came to the saddening realisation the other day that I had left my kettle in my old flat. This may not seem particularly distressing, but it's been with me for a long time… Continue

Imagination running wild

Well, it's Thurday afternoon. This week has been long. The bosses went away, which naturally meant we had one of the busiest weeks on record. It's been interesting, but I think we've pulled through ok. Had the weirdest dream the other night; half-awoke, looked at the ceiling, and saw a man dressed in tribal gear, with black eyes and a bone through his chin, about to jump on me. It was odd. I decided I probably needed to sleep some more. To be honest, it's most likely just the stress of battling… Continue

Apparently...

According to the Holmes and Rahe stress scale, moving house is a stressful thing; twenty life units, to be exact. Well, we did so last night. In a car we only bought last week, that my husband hadn't driven before, with a load so massive we couldn't see out of the back window at all, and the mirrors were a bit iffy. Oh, it was fun. Now most of my stuff has been moved in to his tiny North London studio, and the rest of it will be moved this evening, post-congestion-charge. Should be fun. Of cours… Continue

Something that greatly amused me

This is a post in which songs are represented in chart form; among them 'I'd do anything for love (but I won't do that)' and 'Don't cry for me Argentina'. Made me laugh. So, since last time I posted... I'm married, got rid of glandular fever and tonsilitis, have bought a car and found a house. The car is a Volvo, which wouldn't be my first choice; I'm kinda with Clarkson on the Volvo front, but she's very pretty… Continue

My day started great - with me realising I'd won a prize in a blogging contest. I was so thrilled that, uncharacteristically for me, I sent out announcement mails to the whole world.

My weekend's almost over, unfortunately. The brother's pottering around in the kitchen, assembling dinner.

Hi Scarlett,
Thanks for the invitation. Psycholinguistics seems to be a fascinating field. Do you relate it to usability studies? Your bio says that you investigate how we attempt to “explain the inexplicable.” Sounds like a number of applications I’ve been asked to document :). Are you familiar with Donald Norman’s Emotional Design? (http://www.jnd.org/)

A diary can be a life/writing discipline too though - I like that I don't let myself get away without thinking through what I spent my week doing. I did modern languages at UCL (Italian, German, French) - Did you do philosophy? (Heythrop narrows it down a bit...). I'm currently nervously fretting about starting an MA in professional communications - probably at Macquarie uni here in Oz.

I look forward to reading your posts. I'm glad you think the community is a good idea and I hope we all find ways to use it that are useful to us. I'm really excited about the global community it could help us start. So many of us that surely have things in common are separated by geography and so don't get many opportunities to meet and become friends/peers. I'm hopeful the community will help us find those relationships that would not have been possible without the world wide web.

Thanks again for participating. Please invite others you think would find it useful.

lol.... I was broken into the professional networking thing by LinkedIn, & I've resisted the pull of FaceSpace, MyBebo et all thus far and confined myself to diaristic blogging - I just don't reckon I could update my photos that often...Anyhoo - yah, the sepia pic stands out from the crowd, and...Heythrop - I was a UCL bod (93-97) and knew a couple of guys from Heythrop.

You and me both, Scarlett! I have 2 chapters to read, study notes and a paper to write, and a presentation to begin designing... all for school Monday night. But what did I do today? LinkedIn! and CW!

I suspose it is partly in reaction to the 50-hour week I did this week writing procedures for a customer care organization...

I see you're in the UK... I lived in Croydon (south London) for 18 months 2004/2066. I am actively seeking a way back to the UK; somehow it just feels like home to me.

I love your photo... it's what attracted me to your page.

May I add you as a friend?

It doesn’t have to be like this. Read our new whitepaper, Best Practices of Global Product Information to find out how you can streamline and enhance the processes you use of communicate global product information.
